You do not need to arrive knowing everything about child welfare or nonprofit governance. What matters most is a willingness to learn, ask thoughtful questions, contribute your perspective, and use your leadership in service of something meaningful.

CASA for the Cross Timbers Area recruits, trains, and supports community volunteers who advocate for children and families involved in the child welfare system across Erath, Eastland, Bosque, and Hamilton Counties.
Behind that work is a committed Board of Directors that provides leadership, accountability, and stewardship for our mission.
Board members do not provide day-to-day services or manage CASA CTA staff. Instead, they help ensure that the organization remains strong, responsible, sustainable, and prepared to serve children and families for years to come.

who are we looking for?
There is no single professional background or path that makes someone a great CASA CTA board member.
We are building a leadership team around shared values, varied experiences, and strong community relationships. We value people who:
- Believe every child deserves to feel safe, supported, and heard
- Lead with integrity, compassion, and good judgment
- Ask thoughtful questions and consider different perspectives
- Follow through on commitments
- Work collaboratively and respectfully with others
- Care about the strength and future of our communities
- Are willing to use their skills, experiences, and relationships in support of CASA CTA’s mission
Experience in child welfare or nonprofit governance is not required. Orientation, governance education, and continued training are provided.
Connections to Erath, Eastland, Bosque, or Hamilton County are especially valuable as we work to build a board that understands and represents the communities we serve.
what does board service ask of you?
CASA CTA board members are expected to:
- Prepare for and actively participate in Board and committee meetings
- Understand and support CASA CTA’s mission, strategic plan, and governing responsibilities
- Exercise sound judgment and act in the best interests of the organization
- Provide responsible financial and fiduciary oversight
- Support community engagement and resource-development efforts
- Serve as a positive ambassador for CASA CTA
- Protect confidential information and disclose potential conflicts of interest
- Complete required orientation, governance education, and ongoing training
- Follow CASA CTA’s bylaws, policies, ethical standards, and Board Member Agreement
Board members serve without compensation.
Because the Board must remain independent in its governance role, paid CASA CTA employees and active CASA CTA volunteer advocates may not serve simultaneously as members of the Board of Directors.

We believe board recruitment should be thoughtful, personal, and relationship-based.
Sharing your interest does not serve as a formal application, commit you to board service, or guarantee placement on the Board. It simply lets us know that you are open to a conversation.
CASA CTA builds relationships with prospective board members throughout the year. Formal Board elections generally occur in the Fall for terms beginning in January.
If there appears to be a mutual fit, the process may include:
- An informal conversation about CASA CTA and board service
- Opportunities to learn more about our mission, current priorities, and expectations
- A written application and personal interview
- Professional and personal references
- Written consent for required screening and background checks
- Review by the Nominating Committee
- Election by the CASA CTA Board of Directors in accordance with the bylaws
This process gives both you and CASA CTA time to determine whether board service is the right opportunity at the right time.
Because board recruitment is guided by CASA CTA’s current composition, county representation, leadership needs, and identified skill priorities, not every interested person will be asked to move forward at the same time. We value every conversation and may remain connected with prospective members as future opportunities arise.
